In every home,
there must be a place where YOU can go to find some peace and quiet. A place where you can relax, read a book, watch
a movie, write an entry blog or just retreat from the rest of the world. To me
that place is the bedroom and you can easily make some changes to turn it into
a sanctuary.
The room itself has
to be appealing to your senses and invoke inner peace and serenity. A well made
bed with large and small pillows is an invitation to go lay down. Neutral and earth tones are very relaxing
colors and they encourage a touch of serenity much needed after a long day at
work. Leave the bright and interesting bold colors for other areas of the house.
One thing you must
try to do is to keep all the clutter out of your bedroom. Clutter means work
that needs to be done and it is a constant reminder that will interrupt your
peace. A laundry basket full of clothes that need to be put away, a pile of books
and magazines to be sorted, these are the things that should not hang out in
your bedroom. Bring in some relaxing elements like the ones you will find
in tranquil spas. Soft music and candles with pleasant aromas that will make you
totally relax.
In our last trip to Florida, we had the chance to go thru an
RH store “Restoration Hardware”. We love what they have to offer. Each room in
the store embodied total relaxation. In fact I was tempted to take my shoes off
and lay down in one of the showrooms, but I knew this wouldn’t be acceptable
with the store management!
Lighting is also a very important consideration for your
inner sanctum. Depending on the person,
you can choose either lots of bright light or soft, muted light. Celebrate window light with soft, shear
curtains if you like bright light, or tone down windows with darker, heavier
fabric when you want to shut things down.
It is a well-known fact that lighting can affect mood.
