The Best Cookie Recipe Ever!

Fall is here! With cooler weather fast approaching, kitchens in America have become the perfect spot to gather with family members and friends while baking goodies for the next meal or upcoming holiday parties. On a chilly day, the combination of the heat generated from the stove or oven and the aroma of what is cooking is an unspoken open invitation. I don't know about you, but the scent of freshly baked cookies is hypnotic and makes you want to be the first in line to give it a taste.

Sugar, Ginger, Snicker-doodles, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and shortbread, among others, are not just cookies but a heritage from countries with a passion and love for baking. Generations have made traditional cookies of families and country cooks using locally grown ingredients such as fresh farm eggs, milk, and butter. Give a plate of cookies to anyone, and you will see that, with minimal effort, you can get big smiles.

Ingredients

2 sticks of butter or margarine softened.
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour

Procedure

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer at medium speed, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and blend well. Add flour and mix until just combined. Wrap dough in plastic wrap; flatten slightly, and refrigerate for about one hour—heat oven to 375 Fahrenheit. Work with 1/4 of the dough at a time; keep the remainder refrigerated. Roll dough out to half-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut into the desired shape. Place on ungreased cookie sheets spacing about 1 inch apart. Bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. Store in airtight containers.
